Galway Simon Run

Running news …. The Galway Simon big annual run takes place on the 22nd of June 2014. This year due to the level of interest in men to take part in the event they have decided to open up the run to both genders….but to add the twist of the choice between metric and imperial!

The 10K run is perfect for those who wish to either complete a 10K for the first time this year, or to clock up a personal best (PB) at this distance. It is suitable for over 18 runners, joggers and walkers.
For those who are looking for a greater challenge for the new year and who have a couple of 10K’s already under their belt, then they can sign up to do the 10mile run on the day.
To register interest, contact Galway Simon today at fund@galwaysimon.ie for a registration pack, or telephone 091 381828 for more information. Thank you for liking and sharing.

Disney goes to the dark side

We were going to recommend this movie to enjoy it with the family but we are starting to think that the Disney movies are no longer for children, with the evil characters taking control of the main roles. This is the plot:

A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal – an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces a battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom – and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.

They say this is one of  Angelina Jolie‘s best performances, but if you, like us, prefer to have share your own opinion after watching her work, you can go to see Maleficent in the IMC or in the Eye cinema, in 2D or 3D. We would recommend the 3D as when something has been filmed for this technology it contains scenes and images that lose their charm when watching as 2D.
You can consult the times here for IMC and here for Eye Cinema.

An option for Sunday evening (it seems rain is coming back!)

The Big Gig to help fund ATLANTIC

‘Atlantic’ is a feature documentary following the fortunes of fishing communities across the North Atlantic affected by the huge increase in oil activity off their coasts.

On both sides of the Atlantic, oil and gas frontiers are opening up, pushing deeper in to the Atlantic and further north into the Arctic. Coastal communities in Ireland, Norway and Newfoundland are facing the dilemma choosing between traditional fishing and more lucrative oil and gas income.
