St. Patricks Festival

What else this week? But don´t worry we promise not to add any Leprechaun to the post. Yes, this Sunday is March 17th, Saint Patricks’ day, the day to celebrate Ireland and Irish culture. If you are new in Galway (or in Ireland) you should know that going out is mandatory and wearing something green is… optional? No, it´s mandatory too.

Like us, you probably will go for one (or two) pints to some pub in Galway so have a look at our Music/Drinks options. But there are a few other things for the weekend, starting with the festival and its parade.

The theme for the St. Patricks Day parade this year is the “History of Galway”. Also as part
of “The Gathering Ireland 2013” St. Patricks Festival Galway are inviting anyone with a surname or related to one of the Tribes of Galway from around the world to march in the St. Patricks’s Day Parade in Galway on Sunday 17th March 2013.
Our friends in Wikipedia say this are the names of the Tribes: Athy, Blake, Bodkin, Browne, D’Arcy, Deane, Font, French, Joyce, Kirwan, Lynch, Martyn, Morris and Skerrett. We are quite far from this family names but maybe you are discovering now some Irish origin.

Follow this link to see the route of the parade, starting in Dominick St. at 11:30

And have a great Paddy’s day!
