Oscar Wilde Festival

It is always a silly thing to give advice, but to give good advice is absolutely fatal.
Oscar Wilde

This way we want to start talking about the First Oscar Wilde Festival which is going to start tomorrow, September 7th, here in Galway.

The activities programmed for the weekend include storytelling, the piece The Importance of Being Oscar in The Harbour Hotel and a couple of talks about the artist (work and life).

You can check the program here

And continuing with the quoting, this is the description of the Festival the organizers offer in their website, we couldn’t find a better way to explain it:

Why not experience something a little different this year and come along to events that will explore the life and work of one of Ireland’s greatest writers.

For our inaugural year, we look at how Wilde’s connections with the west of Ireland left an early impression on the young writer. Wilde’s final work The Ballad of Reading Gaol will be performed in an intimate venue. We have an interesting talk in store which looks at the worldwide reaction to Wilde’s homosexuality, which led to his downfall.
And finally, our first festival will conclude with a dinner and theatre event, titled The Importance of Being Oscar. This show will chart the incredible highs and lows of the man’s life and will undoubtedly leave you wanting to explore more about this fascinating writer. So why not come join us! A weekend of Wildean fun awaits.
