Ballinasloe Horse Fair

The second largest town in County Galway, Ballinasloe, is celebrating its horse fair in October since the 18th Century. Starting this Sunday, September 28th it will run until Sunday 6th of October. It is the perfect excuse to visit this town and join a party that attracts about 100.000 people every year.

There is a long list of activities most of them focus on the horses but also a few funny shows and races you can enjoy, including the Fireworks on Friday 4th October and the fantastic Pig Racing in the streets of Ballinasloe next Sunday, October 6th.

If you just can go one day, I’d recommend you to go next Saturday, October 5th, or Sunday 6th as on Saturday (in the Fair Green) during the whole day the Horse and Foal Fair will be taking place, and, on Sunday the Dunnes Supervalu Children’s Bakery Competition will be celebrated so, might be the perfect day for you if you are attending with children. They can compete in these different categories:61243 ff crafts dates a3 poster proof21-page-001 1

Also on Sunday October 6th, for all the foodies there will be a International Craft & Food Market offering crepes, curries, falafel and all the sweets you can imagine.

Plenty of music in the pubs, and several other competitions that you can check in their website

If you are visiting Ireland these months don’t miss this opportunity to go to a smaller town to discover how good fun this great fair can be.
