This Charity event (entering the competition is 20 Euros) is forming part of the NUI Galway Alumni Gathering schedule which takes place the weekend of the 11th to the 13th of October 2013 on the NUI Galway campus. As 2013 is the year of the gathering, this event gives a great opportunity to bring together students, staff, alumni and friends of NUI Galway in one place to take part in a fun event for all ages and abilities.

Galway Kenya Run

When: Saturday 14 September 2013

Where: at the Regional Sports Centre, Dangan, Galway, which is situated just 2 miles from the City centre on the N59 Road to Moycullen / Oughterard. And Bailey Allen Hall, NUI Galway.

Admission: Admission to the track is free (you can give some donation for the charities). Admission to the Hall is €10, with all proceeds going to the designated charities.

The idea behind this day is to honour Brother Colm O’Connell for his missionary work and for his role in developing Kenyan athletics to the level it has achieved today.

The highlight of the Track will undoubtedly be the opportunity to witness David Rudisha in action. He has confirmed he will run a Fun Celebrity 800m.

In addition to other races, there will be an Elite Mile – and it is hoped the first sub 4-minute mile to be run in Galway will take place on the day.

Times of the events:

13:00 – 15:30: All members of the public are invited to run, walk or crawl a timed 800m. How far behind David Rudisha’s incredible world record of 1:40.91 would you be?

A few relays teams (4x 200m and 8 x 100m) will also try to better David Rudisha’s time – can they even come close? Those wishing to run 800m will have an option to do so every 10 minutes from 13:00 until 15:30, don’t forget your running shoes

16.00: Celebrity 800m featuring David Rudisha.

16.20: Elite Mile Race – possibility of sub 4-minute mile in Galway for first time.

18.30: ‘Questions and Answers’ session with Brother Colm O’Connell and David Rudisha will take place at Bailey Allen Hall, NUI Galway. Places are limited, but it is possible to reserve tickets
