The Second Edition of Traidphicnic festival, celebrating Irish music, culture, and traditions, takes place in An Spidéal on Friday July 5 and Saturday 6.

The festival, which is run bi-lingually and is part of The Gathering 2013, will be officially opened by Charlie Lennon at 2pm on July 5 outside Studio Cuan.

It will be a weekend event with concerts by traditional music artists along with art and cultural workshops. You can see the program here

Workshops takes place from 10.30am to 1.30pm with registration at Studio Cuan from 10 am. The cost is €15 but family discounts apply.

Among others you can listen to the music of Kevin Crawford and Martin Hayes, the video is from Feakle Festival 2011

For non-trad enthusiasts, there will be a variety of events around the Spiddal Craft Village, Studio Cuan, and the library on the Friday and Saturday.

Remember that, if you don’t have a car and think (like me) that cycling there is not possible (17 km only, I know!) you can take Bus Eireann number 424.

Conamara, a Hint of Madness

It’s not the first time we post something that takes place in Connemara. It’s home of many festivals and sports events and also a region with a unique and extraordinary natural landscape.

Now, what do you like more: dancing, cycling, music or maybe just…walking? Because all of this will have a space in the 29th Conamara Bog Week Festival.

It’s open to all ages and there will be some famous faces of the Irish culture and entertainment, like musicians Johnny Connolly and Declan Corey, box player John  Bowe or new talents as Sabrina Dinan, among others. The big thing about the festival apart from the obvious beautiful scenery is the mix of ages, something very common in this country culturally speaking, specially in traditional and country music.

But that’s not everything. Scientists and artists will join the festival visiting schools to explain the wonders of the area and help the youngest ones to learn how to garden and grow vegetables.

Lay on the grass and relax…

clubs & pubs for the weekend

Here’s the selection for the week. 4 different places to enjoy from traditional music and swing to Lady Gaga.

Let’s start in the heart of Galway. When was the last time you saw some Irish dancing? Every Wednesday we can enjoy it at The King’s Head:

And from traditional music to Disco Divas. In Halo, this Friday, from midnight you can dance your trouble away with the music of Kylie, Katy and Gaga:

On Saturday we have the Barnardos Fun Draiser, a party first on board of the Corrib Princess and then, from 22h in the Commercial Boat Club. Barnardos is an organization helping children and families in need. You can check their website here

And, of course, on Saturday, you can go to see the final of the Champions League, for example in Massimo’s big screens.

On Sunday (like every Sunday) The Blue Note will bring us The Rye (enjoy the banjo sound from 7 pm in the Beer Garden):
